 Great printer for the money August 31, 2010

I was spending a lot of $$ on ink on my old Lexmark printer, so Kodak's ads about low ink cost prompted me to try one of their products. We have three computers in our home so the wireless connectivity was a great feature with all of the computers being able to use the printer, and unlike most wireless setups, this one installed flawlessly with no problems the very first time. Very Impressive.
Copy and scan functions work excellently and were an added plus. Particularly because it does color copies (my regular B&W copier does a lousy job copying originals with colors, so this worked out great for me). Unfortunately, after having the printer only three days it came up with a "printer error" that could not be resolved, but Kodak tech support was excellent, they sent me a new printer right away with a postpaid box to return the old one. Ergo, I am well pleased with their response, service support, and product. About the only downsides I've observed are that it's somewhat noisy with lots of print carriage movement, and the power cord connection where it plugs into the back of the printer seems a little weak as the cord can come out easily if you are not careful, but these are minor points. Overall, I think it's an exceptional printer for the money and I've already recommended it to friends and family.

Love my Kodak printer. I have owned many printers, but never a Kodak and I love it. It is easy to use and you can't beat the price on ink cartridges. Haven't had a need to use it wireless, but have the option should I need it.

KODAK ESP 5250 All-in-One Printer produces good print quality and vivid color rendition. It has wireless capability and easy to set up. It is also reasonably priced and the ink cartridges are a lot cheaper compared to other brand. Having said that, there are a few things that put KODAK ESP 5250 at a disadvantage, mainly the fact that it requires both black and color ink to be non-empty to be able to print (e.g. if you want to print black and white and you are out of color ink, it won't work). Also if one color of the color (that have 5 base colors) ink cartridges is empty, the entire color cartridge need to be replaced (since all color inks are integrated into one color cartridge). Overall, this is a very good printer, especially for those who does printing both in color and black and white (and also when printing color, most of the time it is multiple color, and not just one or two color - to optimize the ink usage).
Pros:
1. Easy to setup
2. Kodak ink cartridge is relatively inexpensive
3. Wireless printing capability (Wi-fi)
4. Good color quality print out (photos)
5. Fast printing
6. Nice 2.4 LCD and built in memory card reader (print without a PC)
7. Copying without a PC
8. Powerful scanning capability w/ software (character recognition, scan multiple pictures at once etc)
Cons:
1. Can't print if one of the cartridge (black or color) is empty
2. If one color of the color ink cartridges is empty, need to change the entire color cartridge (wasting ink)
3. USB cables not included (but capable of connecting to PC/Laptop through USB)
4. No automatic two sided printing (can be done manually however)
5. No automatic document feeder
6. No dedicated photo tray
7. No slot for compactflash memory cards or USB flash drive
8. Can't connect directly with digital camera through USB (PictBridge)

Very good printer for the price. Good ratings from Consumer Reports! Bought to try as the ink is much cheaper and thought the printer would pay for itself fast with the savings in ink. Love that it has WiFi so it works with all of our computers! Does not print as well as a high-priced laser printer, however prints photos very well although it is a quite loud printer!

Pros:
-Very easy to set up
-Easy to use (wireless printing is awesome!)
-Cheap ink
-Prints quickly
-Decent quality prints
-Scans to PDF (and other standard formats, but I've noticed some scanners won't scan to pdf)
Cons:
-Doesn't come with a USB cable - wireless connect only
-Somewhat Loud
-Serious photographers might not be happy with the photo print quality, but I think it's fine for normal users (I don't mind framing what I print, even on regular paper).
-No tray to catch printed pages - they simply lie on top of the paper input tray. This could be a problem if printing lots of pages.
Disclaimer: I've only had this for a week, so I can't speak to its durability over time.
